Where Are They Now? Catching Up with Genes in Space Alumni

We are incredibly proud to see where our Genes in Space alumni are today. From developing new medical treatments to launching tech startups, our former students are making a real impact in the world. A new article on UPWARD, the magazine of the ISS National Laboratory, shares the incredible journeys of four of our program's stars, showing how their time with Genes in Space was a launchpad for success. It's a powerful reminder of how fostering curiosity and critical thinking in young people can lead to a lifetime of innovation. We invite you to read more about their inspiring stories and how the Genes in Space program is building the next generation of STEM leaders here.

Ten years and counting, the Genes in Space competition, which allows students in grades 7-12 to design biotechnology experiments for the International Space Station, has had a profound impact on its alumni. We hope you'll enjoy catching up with four former high school finalists and winners—Anna-Sophia Boguraev, Jonathan Chang, Aarthi Vijayakumar, and Kaylie Hausknecht—highlighting how the program shaped their academic and professional paths.

We hope your passion for science and technology will open doors to fantastic opportunities, too!
